Ringing in the New Year With White Kastle Klones

My friend Brian Koppelman just emailed me with his family's truly novel New Year's Eve tradition, which certainly warms the hearts (and stomachs) of all of us here at A Hamburger Today and Serious Eats.

Dear Ed,
Like you, Amy and I have never been big on going out new year's eve. Over the past few years we've developed the following tradition that our kids really love, because they get to be involved in creating it. The menu is: imitation White Castle burgers with chocolate fondue for desert.

The White Castle recipe comes from A Hamburger Today. It turns out burgers that are pretty much an exact taste match and that are simple and fun to make. We all eat the burgers then cut up the fruit and poundcake, melt the chocolate for the fondue, and begin the countdown to the new year.
