From retail real estate site GlobeSt.com: "Celebrity chef Bobby Flay is launching an upscale hamburger chain called Bobby’s Burger Palace, his business partner revealed ... " The story says one is under development in New Jersey and another will open in a Long Island, New York, mall, with five to ten new locations a year.
In a Long Island mall, you say...fascinating. If it's Roosevelt Field that's just local enough for me to go nuts!
Of course, I could always hope for Walt Whitman, but that's because it's a PITA for most workers to grab a quick bite to eat since most of the eateries are over by Bloomie's since Ben's went out long ago.
BBP sounds like a natural for Las Vegas, the upcoming foodie mecca of the western world. There are some awesome burgers in that town already, and plenty of room for more.
Los Angeles will be a tougher market, but I hope to see a BBP there as well. Food trends change hourly in la la land, but burgers, dogs, rice bowls and tacos will always be staples.
It seems like hamburgers are really jumping class recently. Just a few years ago, the term "upscale hamburger chain" would have sounded bizarre. These days, even super hip sites like JuliB.com cover hamburger spots (BLT Burger, Zen Burger, etc.)
I'm sorry but I can't get on Bobby's burger train. I have been to his joint in Caesars Palace and it was much ado about nada. The service was slow and marginal at best, even on a Sunday night. The place was overly loud and our food was cold when it arrived. Upon tasting, we discovered, the chefs haven't discovered the new thing in spices called....salt!!! Bland with a capital BLAH. We were unthrilled. Thing is, it wasn't just one thing...it was everything! Now he wants to launch into that king of American foods...the burger...how many Cordon Bleu grads will it take to f#*k that up?
Cheers, TB.
I agree with Texas Blues...I've been to Mesa Grill in NYC and Caesars...both were mediocre at best. However the cactus margaritas are sick. Wasn't there a posting about Rachel Ray starting a burger joint as well? Ugh...just give me a Mana burger any day....or Shake Shack. I've had some high end burgers and they never compare.

That's a pretty ironic name for a upscale place. I like. All it needs is some kind of pork-based mascot.
