Changes at AHT: Accounts Required for Commenting

So the little server hiccups and lack of comments the last few days seem to have been resolved. For those of you interested, that was all part of moving this site over to a new server—the same server that Serious Eats is on.

As you may or may not know, AHT was acquired by Serious Eats late last year, and I began working on SE full-time as managing editor while maintaining my role as editor of AHT. While Serious Eats has been pretty hands-off about messing with the AHT formula (New Coke, anyone?), I did anticipate some changes for this site—among them the fact that I'd eventually be asking you burgermeisters to sign up for accounts in order to comment here.

If you already have a Serious Eats account, it'll work here on AHT (and on AHT sister site Slice). If you don't have an SE account and want one, by all means, do register. It's fast, free, and, most important, we won't use your email/personal info for nefarious purposes.

When you sign in or register, you'll be taken briefly to Serious Eats. Once you're finished though, you should be rerouted back to the page you were on here on AHT.

If you experience any problems with log-ins or see any craziness, please feel free to write support@seriouseats.com

Now that that's out of the way, I can say that I'm really happy to have this new commenting system on AHT. It's actually a newer, well-tuned version of the original comments we used to have here. For those of you who remember, in March 2006, I had to switch to Haloscan comments because of all the comment spam I was getting on AHT. While Haloscan did a great job of filtering out spammy comments, it required the use of a pop-up window that effectively hid what you had to say on a tiny separate page. Now, the comments will appear on the same page as posts, which is great. I think it makes conversations easier to follow.

URL Change
Astute observers will have noticed the URL change. AHT now lives at aht.seriouseats.com. It shouldn't really affect anything. If you have ahamburgertoday.com–based URLs bookmarked or linked to, we've taken care of redirects, etc. If you notice anything awry, please do email: support@seriouseats.com. And if you're used to typing ahamburgertoday.com, don't worry, it'll redirect right to the new URL.
