New York magazine's insatiable Gael Greene finds her new personal best burger: "Updating Old Homestead’s sidewalk seating with a nip and a tuck to pass it off as the new Prime Burger Café is clearly a bid to make the 1868 landmark seem cool. I’d say watching the glitz of their meatpacking-district neighbors had gone to the owners’ heads—except that the peppered bacon burger I’m barely able to wedge into my mouth may be the best burger I’ve ever eaten."
Bonnie's Grill closed by Dept. of Health: "That dubious distinction comes as Bonnie's was honored just this week as the No. 5 best burger in New York City by the reader-reviewers of Yelp.com. (Only P.J. Clarke's, Paul's, Island Burgers and Shakes, and Pop Burger earned more accolades.)"
Yeck. I saw that Bonnie's was recently shuttered, but it doesn't affect me much. It's right around the corner from my apartment, but I grab a burger there only when there's no other food options. Burgers are uneven, taste too much of char, and are more bread than bun.
Remember that sloppy burger-eating that a drunken David Hasselhoff did in that YouTube video? He wishes he'd done things differently: "The Baywatch star's only regret about the now infamous footage showing him inebriated and rolling around shirtless on a hotel floor eating a burger, is that he did not follow correct eating etiquette. British journalist Piers Morgan claims his fellow America's Got Talent judge told him: 'I just wish I'd used a knife and fork to eat that burger.' "
In a story about how food portions are supersizing in Japan: "The MegaMac, a monster burger boasting four beef patties, three buns and an artery-clogging 754 calories per serving, has proved an enormous hit for McDonald's Japan since it was made available on limited release in December last year."
