Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. I played a bunch of new games I got, and I think this year's board game party should be a blast. Werewolf is a popular party game that turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected.
Anyway, just sending you a note to tell you a new place in Fort Greene, 67 Burger, is now open till 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. No
mini burgers, but they do have a kids hamburger which includes fries. The burger I picked up last night was really good. The spicy curly fries were just like Arby's but much too expensive (almost $4).
Thanks for the tip, Mr. Balgavy! You're the second person AHT has heard about 67 Burger from. Does anyone else have anything to report? If the burgers there are as cool as the burger diagram (left) from the joint's website ...
Stopped by for lunch a couple of weeks ago, and overall a good burger and experience. They seem to understand what "meduim rare" actually means, my bacon cheeseburger was nicely crusty outside while still rare in the middle. Ordering onion rings always feels like an act of faith to me (will they be reconstituted onion mash in ring form, slimy onion that slips out of the batter at the first bite, or something edible?) and 67Burger was actually far better than average. Beer batter with a nice flavor to it, good onion/batter integrity, and not *too* greasy. Plus they serve RC cola, which is a huge plus in my book. Not a transcendent burger experience, but I'll definitely stop by again.
I just moved out of Ft. Greene and my last meal was at 67 Burger. I have to admit that it was a tremendous burger, not small by any means, but also not too unwieldy. I ordered it medium-rare and it was close to perfect; charred on the outside, pink and juicy on the inside. The fries were fine, nothing to write home about. They have a fairly decent beer selection on draft. However, the service was pretty bad. You order at the counter, then sit and wait at a table. Our food came fairly quickly, but the woman who took our order and delivered our food was a bitch. Maybe she had a bad day, whatever. Also, there is no mustard on the tables. You have to ask for it. That doesn t make any sense at a burger joint. I have met the owner and he is a real nice guy. So, I m thinking that in time the kinks will be ironed out. Regardless, I think it s the best burger in Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill. Go now!
I had a BLT and fries at 67burger, and while the bacon was perfect and the fries very close, I found the atmosphere/decoration oppressive. I guess I don't want to eat inside an album cover for the band Air. It was like a cross between a slaughterhouse and airfield, but much cleaner than either. What really surprised me was that although the owners seem to be selling a brand look as well as food, I couldn't find the restaurant's name anywhere inside the joint. I forgot the name of the place as I was eating there... They don't even stamp their logo on their carefully chosen take-out boxes. Overall, too much money for too much food, even if it was the best bacon I've had in years. I may have not felt that way if the place wasn't so utterly non-life affirming. Maybe it's time to go vegan.
