Burger Portraiture

Today's New York Times Style Magazine had a small dillybop on page 24 under the headline "Food for Art's Sake," highlighting three artists whose work involved food. One of them was Jeff Vespa, whose photo is here at right:

As a co-founder of the celebrity-photography agency WireImage, Jeff Vespa has photographed hundreds of celebrities. Now he sidelines in burger portraiture, producing large-format Polaroids of this fast-food staple. "I only do Los Angles burgers," says Vespa, who goes on burger runs armed with Tupperware to preserve their shape. He feels it's worth a few raised eyebrows: "People aren't looking at the burgers they eat. They don't sit there and consider the burger." Go to www.jeffvespa.com/8x10_polaroids/burgers/001.php.

Though we at AHT like to think we consider our burgers, Mr. Vespa's portraits certainly do make you pause and contemplate the differences in construction and materials among the different fast-food burgers.

Picture proving what I've already known for ages. Wendy's BBC is the hands down best fast food burger. (did anyone else feel a little sick looking at all those ugly pictures?)
