Jeffrey Tennyson, Noted Hamburger Historian, Dies

Brian Jeffrey Tennyson died at age 54 at his home in Palm Springs, Calif., after an illness.

His 1993 book, Hamburger Heaven: The Illustrated History of Hamburger, was among the most definitive books of popular American food.

"He was just in love with the popular culture of the 1950s and 1960s," said his sister, Lisa Tennyson. "To him, the drive-in, in particular, and the big item on the drive-in menu -- the hamburger, the cheeseburger -- to him, that was the epitome of pop culture."

Here's a nice piece from NPR in which Mr. Tennyson speaks about the history of the hamburger: Present at Creation: The Hamburger
