Accident Gives Cows a Glimpse of Their Fate

20060210cowaccident.jpgLast night, I came across this article in the Brandon Sun:

A load of cattle got a terrifying look at their future Tuesday when the semi-trailer they were in hit a semi loaded with hamburger. The trucks collided on the Trans-Canada Highway about 95 kilometres west of Brandon Tuesday night.

The trailers were torn open when they side-swiped each other, leaving cattle wandering on the highway amid packs of hamburger.

“Some of the packages had broken open, and some had been hit by other trucks going by,” said Elkhorn fire chief Terry Bajus, adding some of the cattle jumped from their ruptured truck to temporary freedom. “Some were running around loose in the ditch.”

Neither driver was seriously hurt, but some of the cows had to be put down. I suppose that ended up being a positive as they weren't forced to look their delicious future in the eye. Or maybe this was a terrorist act by the cows. They gave their own lives to show the evils of the ranching industry.

Regardless of any human or bovine motive, I feel worst for the residents of Brandon. Some young Brandonian will go without a burger this weekend and that is just wrong.
