The Black Widow Eats David Hasselhoff's Head?

20060122hasselhoff-head.jpgOn Saturday, Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas was able to fend off competitors at the Big Daddy Burger Competition to keep her title as she finished a nine pound burger in only 27 minutes. The International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE) reports:

Sonya 'The Black Widow' Thomas retained her title today at the Plaza Hotel & Casino Big Daddy Burger Eating Contest by devouring the monstrous 9 LB burger in only 27 minutes. The victory earns Thomas $4,000 in prize money, out of a total purse of $10,000 that was divided up amongst the top eight finishers. In a close second place, finishing less than half a pound behind Thomas, was distance and capacity specialist Rich 'The Locust' LeFevre, and in third was JAWS Chestnut.

Ray The Bison Meduna served as head judge. The dispute over the size of the burger compared to the human head of '80s television sensation David Hasselhoff was not resolved. Hasselhoff rejected the invitation to participate in a non-surgical/non-invasive weighing of the head at the Plaza Hotel & Casino, ensuring that the 'Burger Head' dispute will rage on.

If you're like me, the second paragraph had you saying, "Wah?!?" Apparently, prior to the competition the event was billed as featuring a burger larger than David Hasselhoff's head. Although Hasselhoff would not agree to the weighing, IFOCE was pretty sure his head is heavier.

The resolution to the so-called "Burger Head" dispute appears to rest on whether Hasselhoff’s head is significantly larger than average. According to the Department of Anatomy & Histology, University of Sydney, an adult human cadaver head cut off at vertebra C3, with no hair, weighs between 4.5 and 5 kg (between 9.9 and 10.23 pounds).

“It would seem likely that the head of an individual 6’4” in height would weigh considerably more than the average head, but we cannot assert this without confirmation,” [IFOCE President Richard] Shea said.

That's awfuly fair of you, Richard. I can only pray, that one day David will agree to the weigh-in and this dispute can be put to rest. God knows, much blood has been spilled over this quarrel.
