Opening: Dumont Burger

DuMontAHT tipster and friend Janelle informs us that Williamsburg hipster hangout DuMont will open a new take-out burger stand very soon. No word on whether it will feature the same burger served in the sit-down joint at Union Street and DeVoe or something new.

According to Community Board minutes, the new place will be located at 314 Bedford, between South 2nd and South 3rd streets. From Janelle:

I met the architect—he works with a restaurateur and a third guy, and they open clubs and restaurants. Anyhoo, he designed DuMont Burger, and they're opening soon. Apparently New York did a photoshoot last saturday, but I haven't heard a peep about the opening anywhere else.

Thanks for the tip, Janelle!

I think it's actually between South 1st and South 2nd. They're keeping this on the DL but I've heard it's opening this week. (Will this put Leon's Burger Hut [down the street, open like two hours a day] out of business?) This part of Williamsburg -- aka near my apartment -- definitely needs a good burger nearby. Yay!

Dumont is also opening a gigantic second restaurant over near Giando on the Water sometime soon.

Bill: You'd probably know better on the address. I used the Yahoo Maps to look it up; maybe they're a little off with their coordinates.

I had the burger at the original DuMont location a couple weeks ago. It was good but didn't scream GREAT! Certainly not in my personal pantheon of NYC's greatest. I hope they tweak it a bit for the all-burger place.

what? no good burgers in southside wbg? what about diner? i think that's one of the best burgers ive ever had.

Diner's burger is great... but it's not near *enough* to my house, and it always so crowded (of course I'm sure DB will be crowded too given it's location).

I am told with some authority that DuMont Burger will open tomorrow (11/8).

Sadly, Dumonts burger has steadily gone downhill over the last year or so. Last several times, it has been overcooked and very dry (and now a bit overpriced i might add). It used to be one of the first places i took visiting friends and relatives, a pride of my neighborhood. I very much want them to succeed, but hope they understand the bar is sooper high. (Diner burger - yummmmmm...erific!)

What are you kidding me the Dumont Burger rocks the Diner anyday. No competition. For an 8 oz burger the price is very reasonable plus the fries are amazing. Also the place is designed beautifully.

Actually, I think the real competition for the new Dumont Burger is Coney's, across the street on Bedford betw Grand and South 1st.

uh, Peter Luger?

Don't get me wrong, I like Dumont's burgers plenty, although I prefer Diner's. Buuuut Luger's are not only cheaper, but in a whole other stratosphere in terms of quality. Only downside its that they are lunch only...
