This weekend, I will be in Seattle for a long weekend (thank you, Jewish holiday of Shavuot!). Aside from the typical trips to Pike Place Market and the Experience Music Project, I will most definitely be hitting up some burger joints. We like to take full advantage of vacations here at AHT.
Thus far, I know to try to check out Dick's and Burgermaster, but I'm hoping that our dear readers will be able to offer some other possibilities. So, what's good in Seattle?
It's unlikely I'll be able to attend all your suggestions, but I'll do my best. Thanks in advance, AHT readers!
Seattle deffinately isnt a great burger town but it has a few noteworth places.
I second the Red Mill reccomendation. Go to the one on Phinney Ridge, not the Interbay location.
Dicks while not a great burger is an institution. Their meat supplier told me that the use 8,000 patties a day at each location. It quite a place, its a machine. But as zack said its boring and the fries suck.
Another burger not to bother with is Blue Moon Burgers on Republican near East Lake. What were they thinking? Only one in a blue mon can you get a burger that bad.
Another option for a Kobe beef burger is at Sport Restaurant in Fisher Plaza near the Seattle Center between 4th & 5th on Denny. At $8.50 I believe it's cheaper than the one at Oceanaire, which is mostly an upscale seafood restaurant and requires appropriate attire. Besides, I don't think Oceanaire serves lunch on weekends and the Kobe beef burger isn't on their dinner menu so unless you're here on Friday you'll be SOL.
For less high falutin' burgers I agree with the Red Mill suggestions - there are two locations, Interbay on W. Dravus and Phinney Ridge where Phinney shimmies into Greenwood, and both are consistently good.
If you're in the Ballard neighborhood go to Scooters on 24th NW. It's as good as Red Mill and less crowded.
Another good burger is at Daly's on Eastlake. And they've got a couple of seats with a very nice view of Lake Union - the rest of the seats not so much.
If you're downtown try Two Bells on 4th Ave in Belltown. They make a great burger that they serve on a baguette. Try the Tavern Burger if you go - sauteed onions, bacon, and cheddar with their roughly 1/2 lb patty. And they serve beer & wine!
Dick's is only useful as a memory prod for those of us who grew up here. If you didn't grow up eating at Dick's forget their burgers but try their shakes, which are hand dipped, and the fries when they fresh. As in just outta the fryer.
Oh yeah, if you find yourself in Bellevue try Wibbley's on NE 140th. They've got the best burger on the Eastside. The fries are good, too. And they put a dollop of whipped cream on top of their shakes.
Stay away from Red Robin!!!
Palace Kitchen (downtown Seattle) makes and awesome burger...not the cheapest one in town, but one of the best.
Also keep in mind that Seattle is very sensitive to the "rare red meat" health issue...if you like your burgers red and bloody (as I do), you may run into some objections.
I know many would consider this sacrilege, but if I went back to Seattle, the first hamburger place I'd hit would be Jack in the Box. I know that's not very esoteric or whatever, but when I lived there, I got addicted to their food, and now that I'm in New York, I absolutely miss them. Dick's is good (the fries are much better than the burgers) and Burgermaster is better, but man, I'd give anything for a Sourdough Jack right about now.
I think Dick's is a must. It's by NO means a gourmet burger, but for a quick and cheap eat, Dick's can't be beat. Plus it's a Seattle institution (think White Castle of the Pacific NW)! Red Mill is also a biggie here in Seattle, but I actually prefer the burgers at CC's Gourmet Burgers (http://www.iheartbacon.com/index.php?id=206). Another favorite is the lamb burger at Brasa. MMM! Then there's my new over-the-top favorite "Western Sky Burger" at Honey Hole (http://iheartbacon.com/index.php?id=167). Oh and the burgers at The Attic are strangely delicious.

BTW, Matty - full points for correctly calling it Pike Place Market! Keep it up and you'll become an honorary mossback with all of the privleges and respect that title suggests.
I'd add another vote for red mill burger in phinney ridge, and if you're looking for an excellent burger, I'd also recommend the Attic Alehouse and Eatery in Madison Valley. I like mine with grilled onions and Havarti. http://www.atticalehouse.com/menu/bestburger.htm It's one of the few places in seattle that does neighborhood sports bar the right way.

If you have some ca$h, try Palomino on 4th Ave Downtown. For my money, the best burger I have ever had. DELICIOUS.
Oceannaire (not Seattle specific) has a incredible Kobe burger at lunch.
Redmill is probably the best cheap burger in Seattle.
Red Robin is the most popular fast casual (started here but everywhere now I think)
Dick's Sucks. boring boring boring. Grey meat, if you like that kind of thing.

Is that a Shake Shack burger on top of the Space Needle? Mmmm.... Shake Shack. Hmmm...I may have to open a burger joint up here in Bellingham WA.
