It's almost the end of the year, and therefore, time to reflect... on burgers. We'll be posting a roundup of staff picks soon, but before we weigh in with our top pick for 2013, we want to know your best burger experience of the year, whether it was cooked at home, or enjoyed at a restaurant. Let us know in the comments section!
Results from last week's poll
In last week's poll about patty sizes, 1/3 pound was the most popular response, with 50 percent of the vote, followed by 1/4 pound with 22 percent, and 1/2 pound with 20 percent. Other sizes were much less popular. Only three percent of AHT'ers voted for mini burgers (1/8 pound), two percent said they like their burger to be 2/3 pound, and less than two percent of votes went to the largest sizes (3/4 and a full pound). Here's what some of you had to say on the topic:
1/3 pound is perfect: big enough to be the main course but leaves me enough appetite for my fries and salad.
The balance of meat, bun, and the toppings is the important thing, so the size of the bun will often dictate what size of burger patty I use. I do find however, that many buns tend to disintegrate early when eating a really big burger, so I usually prefer to go with several smaller burgers instead.
I prefer flat patties, so a roughly 5 oz patty of uncooked burger works for the best size. I don't like half-pounder burgers at all. 6 oz raw at most.
Note: the poll remains open, so these numbers may shift slightly in the future.
